PLEXUS Installation
The installation had been set in HEADSCAPE gallery in Paris from 14 November 2001 until 12 January 2002, as a part of an exhibition ZENLOGIQUE which was aimed to present ZEN in our time.
Various pre-recorded sounds which were made from processed everyday-sounds had been played by CD players from ten loudspeakers that were attached to various objects.
The volume of the sounds and the place of the speakers were adjusted to vibrate the objects for the purpose to add acoustic noises on pre-recorded sounds.
The space had a beauty salon jointly. So the environmental sound were also mixed in the installtation.
The mixture of sounds from different realities created an multidimensional sonic space that merges difference between a daily space and an art.
PLEXUS Recording / Performance
Disk(track) 1 to 8 are sixteen mono channel sound materials. Each left and right channel contains different sound that were used for the installation. It means a 16 channels speaker installation can be set immediately by using these materials.
Disk(track) 9 is a mix of two recordings that are taken from a same combination of the sound source and the objects.
One was recorded from the installation in Paris, and another one was recorded at a studio in Tokyo.
Disk(track) 10 is a part of sound material that was used for a slow-motion performance during the opening party of the exhibition.
I had worn a black costume with a necklace made by seven small speakers and audio cables, and a cylindrical black mask which was decorated by small circle mirrors - the hollow on the top was stuffed by feathers.
I also had held a big speaker in my arms and had walked in and around the space as slow as possible throughout four hours.
Disk(track) 10 was played from the big speaker, and track 1 to 8 were played from the necklace speakers simultaneously during the performance.
PLEXUS system
These recordings were compiled and released as free sound materials in 2004.
They could be used for a composition, installation and any other creative purposes by anyone.
One of my intention was to make creative circulations by involving the new results into my next works.
Although Yoko Higashi, Emmanuel Holterbach, Kiyoharu Kuwayama and Fabio Carboni could have kindly showed me their works that contains my materials, I have not had a chance to involve their works into my new works yet.
However the sound file edition of PLEXUS is also free to use for any creative purposes. So let me know if you could make something interesting by these materials.
