HITOSHI KOJO

(b. 1969 Ibaragi-ken, Japan) has been making music compositions and paintings since early childhood, and graduated oil painting course of 'Tokyo National University of Fine Arts' in 1993.

Now, he works mainly on sound for recording, installation and performance.

He uses the methods so-called "experimental" such as field recording, sight-specific recording, and performance with found-object. But his poetic manner to compose those elements produces rather classical and intimate feeling on the appearance.

His recording works has been constantly released since late 90's, not only under his real name but also often as 'spiracle' which was a collaborative project in the beginning. Now, he uses the name for his solo drone music recording.

In 2000, he found a label 'Octpia' to publish his own works, and has published 9 titles. But most of recent titles are published from other labels in Europe and the United States.

Since he moved the base to Switzerland in 2004, the activity has been expanded to whole Europe, and has had many collaborations include permanent projects such as a experimental folk duo 'Jüppala kääpio' with Carole Zweifel, and a multimedia action project 'Kodama' with Michael Northam, and many single collaborations with sound artists and video aritsits such as John Grzinich, Katherine Liberovskaya, Maurizio Bianchi, Nobu Kasahara, Manu Holterbach, Sophie Durand, Yannick Dauby, Murmer, Jonathan Coleclough, The New Blockaders, etc...

He has left Switzerland for a while, and had been in Canada in second half part of 2007. Since March 2008, He is visiting in Mongolia.
